Welcome to another week! I hope everyone has been enjoying the holiday weekend. As I've been quite busy myself, I thought I'd take a quick moment to share what I like listening to in my studio. You'll notice that it's all Podcasts. I don't really listen to music while working. It doesn't hold my attention long enough for me to sit still. And music is actually too distracting for me while I work. With all that said, here we go!
Astonishing Legends was one of the first Podcasts I ever discovered, and I'm still an avid listener almost 4 years later. Scott and Forrest delve into a variety of topics that all reside within the weird and astonishing realms. Sometimes they explore ghost stories, other times they research ancient civilizations. But no matter what they're talking about, they always have me on the edge of my seat. They research each topic intensively and present their findings in a long-form chat. As someone who enjoys learning and craves deep-dives, this Podcast is absolutely perfect for me.
I'm sharing the first episode of theirs that I ever listened to. I was searching for ghost stories to listen to while at work, and I stumbled across this frightening tale. It revolves around an entity known as the Black Eyed Kids, which are beings that cause extreme tragedy when invited into your life. If you're looking for something to scare your socks off, this episode will do the trick.
Every episode is interesting and well-presented. If I'm being honest, I even like the sponsor breaks on their show. So give them a shot! You might be pleasantly surprised.
Alie Ward does an amazing job of combining interviews with comedy and science in her Podcast, Ologies. If you're someone that enjoys learning for the sake of learning, this show is a good one to check out. I've learned about Malacology to Somnology, neither of which had any interest for me before. But her presentation and dedication to making science approachable has made me a huge nerd for pretty much every topic she covers.
I'm sharing one of my all-time favorites, Egyptology. As a child, I found ancient Egypt fascinating. And through this episode, Alie reawakened the wannabe-Archaeologist within me. So if you're looking to dive into topics you never knew existed, this is the Podcast for you.
Two Girls, One Ghost
Two Girls, One Ghost is a fabulous Podcast where two friends come together to tell each other some spooky stories. Each of the hosts researches a topic and shares their findings with each other, and we get to listen in. They also share listener stories, where listeners send in their real-life experiences to be read on the Podcast. I seriously love listening to this show and get a kick out of feeling scared.
I shared probably my all-time favorite episode of theirs, which contains details and stories related to playing ghoulish games. They go into detail on how the game is played and share experiences of those who have attempted to play. I have to say, it creeped me out for a few days and made taking a shower a little frightening. But if you're looking for something scary, this Podcast has you covered.
The Magnus Archives
Yeah, so I listen to a lot of paranormal podcasts. I just know what I like! And this Podcast has it all - imaginative storytelling, phenomenal acting, and absolutely terrifying imagery. This Podcast follows the day-to-day life of Archivist John as he goes through old recordings and finds out way more about the world than he intended to.
This show has a Lovecraftian vibe, and is told as a continuous story. As such, I'm sharing the very first episode with you. I have to say, it only took me one episode to want to know more. So hit the play button and enjoy a wildly freaky tale.
Welcome to Night Vale
Always weird and quirky, this show tells of the odd occurrences happening in the bizarre town of Night Vale. From random interdimensional portals at PTA meetings to off-limits Dog Parks, this town isn't exactly a place I'd like to call home. But it is a fun and interesting Podcast to get lost in.
Because there are so many episodes and a lot of info to catch up on, I'm sharing their helpful Introductory episode here. It'll be a great place to start if you feel easily overwhelmed by long-running Podcasts. Personally, I like having a backlog to work through. But I know that's not true for everyone, so give this a listen and decide where you'd like to start. Just remember: All hail the Glow Cloud.
Well that's all I have for today! I hope you find something new and fun to listen to within my list. I love all of these Podcasts, and they've helped get me through some really long days. I hope they bring some entertainment and enjoyment to your work day, as well.
